Zephyrs
This London-based quartet—John Peeby (guitar), Marc Lease (organ), John Hinde (bass) and John Carpenter (drums)—were originally known as the Clee-Shays. They made their debut in 1964 with an instrumental, What's That All About, before recording a version of Bo Diddley's I Can Tell. Although they enjoyed the services of producer Shel Talmy, the Zephyrs were unable to emulate the success of fellow-proteges the Kinks and the Who. Their lone chart entry, She's Lost You, barely scraped the UK Top 50 in 1965 and the group broke up following another unsuccessful release. Pete Gage was a founder member of the group but left prior to recording. He later formed the Ram Jam Band with Geno Washingtonand went on to join Vinegar Joe.
