Dweezil Zappa
Dweezil is the son of the legendary Frank Zappa. However, it was not his father's guitar playing that prompted Dweezil to form a band, but Eddie Van Halen. Trouble was that this obsession led to an almost direct copy of his hero's style, right down to wielding identical guitars and dressing the same. However, Dweezil still built up a small cult following with early releases, breaking into the mainstream via the album and video, MY GUITAR WANTS TO KILL YOUR MAMA, one of his father's old tunes given the Van Halen treatment. The video, which achieved mass viewing figures on MTV and music programmes all over the world, featured a '50s cop movie parody in black and white, and guest appearances from, among others, actor Robert Wagner. The album was completed with Bobby Blotzer (Ratt; drums), Steven Smith (Journey; drums), and vocalist Fiona. For SHAMPOO HORN the videos took on a much more surreal nature. Dweezil's brother helped out on vocals but that Van Halen ghost still lurked.
