Wendy & Lisa
This US duo comprised Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman were childhood friends from Los Angeles, California, and whose fathers were both session musicians. Melvoin was a pianist who encouraged his daughter to start playing guitar when she was just seven years old. Mr. Coleman was more interested in electronic music and his daughter took up keyboards. Lisa, then Wendy, became members of Prince's backing band, the Revolution, in the early '80s, writing some of the music for the film Purple Rain, and remained with him until he disbanded the band in late 1986. They then embarked on a career as a duo releasing a string of minor hit singles on Virgin such as Waterfall (1987), Sideshow (1988) and Satisfaction (1989, UK Top 30). They appeared on Joni Mitchell's CHALKMARKS IN A RAINSTORM, and k.d. lang guested on their EROICA album.
