Wall Of Voodoo
Formed in Los Angeles, California, USA, in the immediate punk aftermath, Wall Of Voodoo was initially comprised of Stan Ridgway (vocals/keyboards), Bill Noland (guitar/vocals), Charles Gray (bass/keyboards/synthesizer) and Joe Nanini (drums). However, by the release of DARK CONTINENT, Noland had been replaced by Marc Moreland while Bruce Moreland had been added on bass. The latter was then dropped for CALL OF THE WEST, arguably the unit's finest album, on which their sense of rhythm and wash of synthesizer lines underscored Ridgway droning, offhand vocals. Any potential this offered was sadly sundered with the singer's departure in 1985. While Ridgway enjoyed a UK Top 5 single with Camouflage, Wall Of Voodoo pursued a less successful career led by new vocalist Andy Prieboy. Further personnel changes undermined the group's progress and subsequent albums, although of intermittent interest, lacked the adventure of their second set.
