Dwight Twilley
b. 6 June 1951, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA. A crafted performer, renowned for high quality pop, Dwight Twilley scored an impressive US Top 20 hit with his debut release, I'm On Fire. This 1975 single combined elements of rock ‘n’ roll, the Beatles and Lou Christie, yet its compulsive charm remained contemporary. An attendant album, recorded with long-time associate Phil Seymour (b. 15 May 1952, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA, d. 17 August 1993, Los Angeles, California, USA), took a year to complete. This delay, incurred when initial recordings proved unsatisfactory, undermined the duo's momentum and, despite critical acclaim, the collection failed to emulate its opening track. Twilley's subsequent releases were equally meritorious, but the singer's love of pop tradition was proving out of step. Seymour later embarked on a solo career and although his former colleague was hampered by record company indecision, the singer did achieve a further US Top 20 entry, Girls, in 1984.
