Sid King & The Five Strings
b. Sidney Erwin, 1936, Denton, Texas, USA. King was one of the foremost rockabilly singers of the '50s. As a teenager he formed the Western Melodymakers, which became Sid King And The Five Strings when he signed to Starday in 1954. Among the group's earliest recordings was Who Put The Turtle In Myrtle's Girdle but after joining Columbia, King concentrated on more hard-rocking material. Recording in Dallas, he released a version of Roy Orbison's Ooby Dooby in 1955 but though King's record was issued first, Orbison himself had the hit. He also recorded Sag, Drag And Fall as well as versions of R&B hits including Drinkin Wine Spoo-De-O-Dee’.
