Markus Stockhausen
b. 1957, Cologne, Germany. Son of the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, Markus studied piano and trumpet at the Cologne Musikhochschule. He also plays flügelhorn and synthesizer. In 1981 he won the German Music Competition. Since 1974 he has worked regularly with his father, who has written a number of works for him, including Sirius. In particular, the solo trumpet parts in Stockhausen perés massive opera cycle, Licht, were created for Markus. Outside of the contemporary ‘classical’ field he has played free improvised music with various groups, and currently has a band, Aparis, with his brother Simon on saxophones and keyboards.
