Marilyn Scott
Other than her records, almost nothing is known about Marylin Scott. One of her record companies had an address for her in Norfolk, Virginia, USA, and her first recording session was held in Charlotte, North Carolina, so an origin in the South Eastern states of the USA seems probable. Between 1945 and 1951 she recorded blues and R&B as Scott, and gospel as Mary Deloach. There was also a further gospel record in the mid-60s. Some of her records feature acoustic instruments and a fairly traditional sound, while others are in a more contemporary vein, with a small band for the R&B numbers, and organ and backing vocals for the gospel. In whatever setting, she performed with skill and conviction, and seemed to have few problems reconciling the sacred and secular sides of her musical personality.
