Chris Stamey
b. Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA. Singer/guitarist Stamey first rose to prominence as a member of the Sneakers, a short-lived pop/rock act which split up in 1976. Having become domiciled in New York, he was briefly associated with a group fronted by erstwhile Box Tops member, Alex Chilton, who in turn produced Stamey's solo debut single, The Summer Sun. The artist subsequently formed the dBs, who completed a series of excellent, melodic albums. However, despite critical approbation, the group was not a commercial success and Stamey left to resume his solo career during the '80s. A period involved with the Golden Palominos, an informal attraction loosely-based on available, like-minded musicians, punctuated his albums, but although unprolific, Stamey has continued to enjoy cult popularity. In 1991 he undertook live appearances in London, accompanied by former dBs partner Peter Holsapple.
