Allen Shaw
b. c.1890, Henning, Tennessee, USA, d. 1940, Tipton County, Tennessee, USA. A travelling man, remembered all through western Tennessee and in Memphis, Shaw played forceful steel guitar, and sang the blues in an exultant voice on his one issued record, cut in 1934 with Willie Borum on second guitar. On one title, Shaw played impeccably sensitive yet very powerful slide guitar. Shaw and Borum also backed Hattie Hart at this session. Shaw's son, Willie Tango, reckoned to be a better guitarist than his father, never recorded (though he was the subject of a song recorded by Memphis Minnie).
