The Raelets
The Raelettes was formed in the USA around Margie Hendricks and previously known as the Cookies, whose R&B backing voices appeared on numerous '50s sessions and inspired the new group's inception. Founded to provide the responsive vocals to singer Ray Charles, this female trio has provided the launching pad for several careers. Merry Clayton, Mable John, Minnie Riperton, Clydie King and Estella Yarbrough were all members at some point, although Hendricks has provided a long-serving consistency. The Raelettes did have several minor hits via Charles' Tangerine label, but their constantly changing personnel denied them a more constructive recording career.
