Romeo's Daughter
Above-average AOR band fronted by female vocalist Leigh Matty and expertly backed by songwriter and guitarist Craig Joiner, Tony Mitman on keyboards, Ed Poole on bass and drummer Andy Wells. The band came together under the direction of producer Robert Mutt Lange in what seemed to be an attempt to recreate a similar project from the late '70s with his wife's band, Night. Lange, along with John Parr and Joiner, worked hard on the songs and production and armed with a deal with Jive Records issued the single, Heaven In The Back Seat, a minor hit that brought together elements of both Heart and Belinda Carlisle whilst retaining an English sound. 1989's self-titled album sold well and the band proved a popular live attraction, receiving much attention from Radio 1's ROCK SHOW who broadcast live concerts and an exclusive session. Heaven In The Back Seat, meanwhile, also turned up on the soundtrack to NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 5: THE DREAM CHILD. The band went to ground but resurfaced in 1993 with another single, Attracted To The Animal, followed by a major tour and an album on Music For Nations. By this time they had lost much of their earlier impact and by 1994 had left both management and label in search of new ideas, and were said to be toying with the idea of a name change.
