Ratcat
Emerging in 1986 from Australia's thrash metal scene and based in Sydney, Ratcat relocated to the UK to promote their Ramones tinged pop rock. The trio comprises Simon Day (vocals, guitar), Amr Zaid (bass and occasional vocals) and Andrew Polin (drums). If UK audiences were surprised to see them occupy support slots for INXS, it was less of a shock in their homeland, where they regularly top the charts and appear on the covers of teenage magazines. Despite the obvious commercial validity of the band, their music remains rooted in pure garage group aesthetics: 'We've always said that, at heart, we're basically scuzz rats. We're at our best when we're at our scuzziest'.
