Rare Bird
Steve Gould (vocals/saxophone/bass) and Dave Kaffinette (keyboards) fronted this British group throughout its recording career. Graham Field (organ) and Mark Ashton (drums) completed the line-up featured on RARE BIRD, which included their memorable 1970 hit single, Sympathy. Although this atmospheric protest ballad only reached the lower reaches of the UK Top 30, it proved highly popular on the Continent and has since become a cult favourite. The group came under the wing of Tony Stratton-Smith, but failed to translate their European charm into further success at home. Gould and Kaffinette were joined by Andy Curtis (guitar) and Fred Kelly (percussion) for EPIC FOREST, but despite initial promise, this restructured line-up failed to revitalize Rare Bird's increasingly ailing fortunes.
