Rapeman
This controversially-named US act was created when Steve Albini (ex-Big Black; guitar/vocals) joined forces with two former members of Scratch Acid, David Wm. Sims (bass) and Rey Washam (drums). The trio was short-lived and their output comprised of a single, Inkis' Butt Crack, released on the cult Sub Pop label, BUDD, a 4-track set, and TWO NUNS AND A PACK MULE. The album maintained the loud, uncompromising sound the two previous groups had offered—tight, crashing drums, pounding bass and sheets of metallic guitarwork—and included a startling interpretation of Z.Z. Top's Just Got Paid. However, the group was unable to shake off criticism of its repellent name which Albini took from a character in contemporary Japanese comics. Several distributors objected to handling the album and many venues were forced under pressure, particularly at colleges and universities, to cancel appearances, which in part explained the trio's demise. Sims subsequently resurfaced in the Jesus Lizard, which Albini produced.
