Jack Radics
b. Jordan Bailey, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. As a teenager Radics had become involved with the New World sound system in 1975, responsible for running a little soul selection at their uptown Kingston gigs before trying his hand as a singer. He made one recording, a cover of Kool And The Gang's Get Down On It, before moving to London in the early '80s. There he met up with producer Blacker Dread who released Easy (a duet with Debbie Ryvers) and Walk On By in 1985, the year he was signed to Island under his real name. Despite recording an album for them only a handful of tracks ever emerged. When the contract expired in 1988 he returned to Jamaica and promptly scored two local hits with Dream Merchant and Conversation. It was at the Sting '90 festival that he made his reputation for singing in a dramatic and exaggerated baritone which, once harnessed to dancehall rhythms, provided a barrage of releases for a variety of Jamaican producers. Set My Heart On Fire for Shocking Vibes, All Of Me on Freddie McGregor's Big Ship label, Good Loving for boxer Lloyd Honeyghan and I'll Be Sweeter and My Love Is On Fire for Penthouse were all substantial hits in 1991, the year Castro Brown released Radics' debut album, JACK. 
The following year he repeated the process all over again, increasing his volume of cover versions and also his producers, who by now had grown to include numerous labels in Jamaica, England and America. The list increased throughout 1993 when there was a growing shift towards more self-penned, cultural material, resulting in several fine sides for Star Trail, Shocking Vibes, Bobby Digital and Taxi. That summer the Montego Bay label Top Rank released his second album SOMETHING, which was followed by his belated Penthouse set, I'LL BE SWEETER, in October. In December 1993 Sly And Robbie teamed Radics with Chaka Demus And Pliers on a version of Twist And Shout which became an international hit, reaching number 1 on the UK chart in January 1994.
