Rufus Perryman
b. 23 October 1892, Monroe, Louisiana, USA, d. 2 January 1973. Although his singing and piano playing were barely adequate, Perryman's work has about it a rather endearing, basic earthiness. In this respect it is sometimes preferable to the blander styles which developed as the blues became an acceptable part of popular entertainment. He played mostly in the south, achieving wider popularity thanks to recordings, and in the late '50s and early '60s toured Europe. In 1970 he recorded music for the soundtrack of the film BLUES LIKE SHOWERS OF RAIN. Perryman, who died in 1973, was an elder brother of William ‘ Piano Red’ Perryman.
