Outside
Namely one Matt Cooper (b. c.1973), who is widely recognised among club and genre cognoscenti as the most talented arrival on the jazz/funk scene in the last decade. Classically trained on the piano, he went on to a deal with Dorado Records that allowed him to install a new digital recording studio in his own North London abode. Their relationship began with the singles No Time For Change and Big City, whose featured vocalists included Cleveland Watkiss, with a bass line from Gary Crosby, before collaborating with fellow Dorado interns D*Note and jazzmen like Steve Williamson and Ronnie Laws. A third single, Movin' On, was completed as a typically strong and energetic debut album was assembled in late 1993. Outside also comprise Patrice Blanchard (bass) and Byron Wallen (trumpet), plus various session musicians as the occasion demands.
