New Orleans Rhythm Kings
After the hugely popular Original Dixieland Jazz Band created a storm of interest in Chicago in the early '20s other musicians decided to try their luck at the new jazz music. Amongst them were Georg Brunis, Jack Pettis, Arnold Loyacano, Louis Black, Elmer Schoebel and Frank Snyder. They formed a band they named the New Orleans Rhythm Kings for an engagement at the Friars Inn. With the ODJB safely on their way to international fame in New York and London, the NORK became Chicago's top jazz band. They recorded in 1922 and looked set to become one of the mainstays of the suddenly vital white jazz scene. With a few personnel changes the band was strengthened, but by 1925 they had folded, leaving behind a handful of records and a lasting impression upon the next generation of musicians who would form the basis of Chicago-style jazz.
