Naked Prey
This US group was founded in 1981 in Tucson, Arizona by Van Christian (guitar/vocals), formerly of the Serfers. David Seger (guitar/vocals), Richard Badenious (bass) and Sam Blake (drums) completed the line-up featured on the unit's mini-album debut. The set was produced by ex-Serfer Dan Stuart, guitarist in Green On Red, but although comparisons were naturally drawn between the two, Naked Prey offered a louder, heavier sound. This was more clearly heard on UNDER THE BLUE MARLIN, on which Blake had been replaced by Tom Larkins. 40 MILES FROM NOWHERE, which featured the The Rolling Stones Silver Train and Glen Campbell's Wichita Lineman, was regarded as a disappointment, and the group's musical momentum noticeably faltered. Van Christian nonetheless continues to front his creation, although it now seems doomed to cult status.
