Maxine Nightingale
b. 2 November 1952, Wembley, London, England. Although Maxine made her recording debut in 1968, early acclaim was garnered from a series of roles in the stage productions of Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell. She resumed a solo career during the '70s, scoring an international hit with the compulsive Right Back Where We Started From. This infectious performance, featured heavily in Paul Newman's cult movie SLAPSHOT, reached number 8 in the UK and number 2 in the US, but although Love Hit Me also reached the UK Top 20, the singer was unable to sustain consistent success. Lead Me On, a flop at home, climbed to number 5 in the USA in 1979, but proved to be her last substantial release.
