John Norum
Norum was formerly the guitarist in Europe but quit just as the band were on the verge of worldwide recognition with The Final Countdown. After completing the recording of the COUNTDOWN album, he decided to break ranks because he was unhappy with the pop-metal direction that vocalist Joey Tempest was intent on pursuing. He enlisted the help of Marcel Jacob (bass, ex- Yngwie Malmsteen), Peter Hermansson (drums, ex-220 Volts) and Goran Edman (vocals, ex-Madison) to record TOTAL CONTROL in 1987. Musically this followed a similar path to Europe, Whitesnake and Foreigner, but featured more up-front guitar and less polished vocals. He later moved to Los Angeles to work on material with Glenn Hughes, and later collaborated with Don Dokken.
