The Morells
Formed in Springfield, Missouri, USA in 1982, the Morells recorded only one album, SHAKE AND PUSH, on Borrowed Records. Although it never charted, this roots-rock group built a devoted following on the USA alternative circuit. Consisting of bassist Lou Whitney (who had once performed with soul singer Arthur Conley), his wife, Maralie (keyboards), D. Clinton Thompson (guitar) and Ron Gremp (drums), the group started in the late '70s as the Skeletons and then the Original Symptoms before settling in as the Morells, combining within their sound rockabilly, soul, blues and jazz. The group disbanded in the mid-80s. Lou Whitney went on to produce the debut album by New York rockers the Del-Lords before re-forming the Skeletons in 1988, with Thompson.
