Mindfunk
This intense American thrash-funk quintet were formed in 1989 by vocalist Patrick R. Dubar and rhythm guitarist Jason Coppola. They had reportedly wanted the group to be called Mind Fuck, but re-thought this for obvious reasons. Adding John Monte (ex-MOD; bass), Reed St. Mark (ex-Celtic Frost; drums) and Louis J. Svitek (ex-MOD; guitar), they signed to Epic and debuted with an aggressive and confident self-titled album the same year. Slayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Anthrax were obvious reference points, as were the hardcore origins of several of their membership. However, they were dropped by Epic shortly afterwards (a fact bitterly recalled in their second album's title) and in came Jason Everman (ex-Nirvana, Soundgarden) and Shawn Johnson for Coppola and St Mark respectively.
