Michael Mantra
A California-based musician/experimentalist who has sought to advance on the ambient ethic of Brian Eno and more recent ‘chill-out’ arists such as the Orb. Mantra describes his methods as ‘Brain Hemisphere Harmonic Healing’, which spells out his intention to create sound structures that ‘induce a meditative state that synchronises brain wave frequencies’. After synchronising the mind and the body, Mantra's work claims to release endorphines (part of the human body's natural pharmacy which work at the level of opiates). To achieve this electronics are combined with field recordings of the Pacific sea, seagulls, and natural instruments such as the didgeridoo. Such experiments in the neural affects of sound could well represent a previously unchartered future for music.
