Messiah
Ali Ghani and Mark Davies, from Hounslow, Middlesex, England and Barnet, Hertfordshire, England respectively, met while students at the University Of East Anglia. They represent the talent behind the Messiah name, which moved from the independent Kickin' Records to WEA in 1993. The major doubtless saw Messiah as accessible rave which they could market. Their debut album was completed with the aid of Def American's Rick Rubin, who saw the group as the perfect embodiment of dance with which to convert an American audience. Old habits died hard however, and he hooked them up with Ian Astbury of the Cult to produce one of their debut album's tracks. He had picked the band up from their previous American base, Moby's Instinct label. Their debut for WEA arrived with the aid of Precious Wilson's vocals, and included re-runs of their previous club favourites 20,000 Hardcore Members, Temple Of Dreams (based on This Mortal Coil's Song To The Siren), I Feel Love and There Is No Law. The middle two of that quartet had given the band Top 20 crossover hits too. In addition they unveiled the impressive Thunderdome, with remixes from Spicelab, Secret Knowledge and Gods Underwater.
