Melvins
The late Kurt Cobain of Nirvana rated the Melvins as his favourite group. Unsurprising, perhaps, as they are the only other band of note to originate from his hometown Aberdeen (though they have since relocated to San Francisco), and he did once roadie for them. Drummer Dale Crover also played with Nirvana for a spell, while Cobain would produce HOUDINI for the band. The other members of the Melvins, formed in 1984, number Buzz Osbourne (vocals/guitar) and Lori Beck (bass). Matt Lukin ( Mudhoney) was also a floating member. Reputed to be more influenced by the heavy rock angle than many who have fallen under the generic title ‘grunge’, the Melvins are big fans of Black Sabbath and even released three solo albums in a tribute to the Kiss strategy of similar pretensions. A cover of Flipper's Way Of The World and Sacrifice sat alongside Alice Cooper's Ballad Of Dwight Fry on cover album, LYSOL.
