Mellow Man Ace
b. Ulpiano Sergio Reyes, 12 April 1967, Havana, Cuba, though he moved to the US at the age of four. Ace was brought up in Los Angeles, where he made his entrance in 1990 with a debut rap LP on Capitol that swtiched between his native Spanish and English. With production offered by the Dust Brothers and Def Jef (among others), the most successful exposition was a bilingual rap over Santana's Evil Ways, entitled Mentirosa. This was released as a single (US number 14), and he was among the key participants in the Latin Alliance project, but younger, more capable brothers have largely taken up the mantle of hispanic rap these days. These include his own blood brother, ‘Sen Dog’, of Cypress Hill.
