Mel McDaniel
b. 6 September 1942, Checotah, Oklahoma, USA. McDaniel began working in bands around Tulsa—first on trumpet, then on guitar—and J.J. Cale wrote and produced his first single, Lazy Me. He moved to Nashville in 1969, and, after two years of banging on doors, his brother found him steady work at a club in Anchorage, Alaska. In the mid-70s, he began recording demos for a Nashville publisher and his singing talents were then recognised. In 1976 he entered the US country charts with Have A Dream On Me and he had a considerable success with Gentle To Your Senses. A record about a synthetic lover, Plastic Girl, was banned by radio stations. He recorded many songs by Bob McDill including Louisiana Saturday Night, Right In The Palm Of Your Hand, I Call It Love and his US country number 1, Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On. He wrote Conway Twitty's tribute to the GRAND OLE OPRY, The Grandest Lady Of Them All, while his hippie anthem Roll Your Own, has been recorded by Hoyt Axton, Arlo Guthrie and Commander Cody.
