Larry Marshall
b. c.1945, St. Anns, Jamaica, West Indies. In 1963, Marshall had minor hits with Too Young To Love for E Henry, and Please Stay for Coxsone Dodd's Studio One label. Subsequently he enjoyed a big hit with Snake In The Grass, a Top Deck production, and, in 1967, recorded I've Got Another Girl and Suspicion for Prince Buster. However, he had his greatest successes at Studio One where, in addition to singing in a duo with Alvin Leslie, he also worked as an engineer. Larry And Alvin had a massive hit with Nanny Goat (1968), and followed with Hush Up (1968), Your Love (1969) and Mean Girl (1969). Another of their songs, Throw Me Corn, became hugely popular at dances through 1969-70 when played on acetate, and was eventually released in 1971. Marshall then recorded solo, and had a further hit with Thelma. A compilation of his Studio One recordings, PRESENTING LARRY MARSHALL, was issued around 1973. By this time, he was also doing production work at Studio One. He left around 1974, and had success with his self-produced I Admire You (1975), with a strong album of the same name following. Since then, he has issued a steady stream of singles, and had moderate hits with remakes of Throw Me Corn (1984) and I Admire You (1985), both Gussie Clarkeproductions.
