Johnny B. Moore
b. 24 January 1950, Clarksdale, Mississippi, USA. Moore was first taught to play the guitar at the age of seven by his Baptist minister father. Four years later he was already playing in early evening sessions at local juke joints. In 1964 he moved north to Chicago to join his father who had moved there six years before. He learned to read music at school and after leaving to work in a lamp factory, played evenings and weekends around the city. In 1975, Koko Taylor asked him to join her band, the Blues Machine. Two years later, he was took part in the New Generation of Chicago Blues, a Berlin concert hosted by Willie Dixon. He subsequently toured Europe three times with Taylor and twice with Willie Dixon, working with the latter until his death in 1992. His records show him to be a worthy performer, adept with a bottleneck and an adequate soloist in the post-B.B. King manner, who nevertheless conducts himself with undue restraint.
