Luther "Guitar Junior" Johnson
b. 11 April 1939, Itta Bena, Mississippi, USA. Johnson's early musical experience was in gospel and he taught himself guitar around 1954, switching to blues before he moved with his family to Chicago's west side in 1955. he played local clubs, teamed up with Magic Sam in the early '60s; Johnson is now regarded as one of the foremost exponents of the guitar-based west side blues style. He spent most of the '70s as a member of Muddy Waters’ band, with whom he recorded and also had his own recordings issued on the Big Beat, MCM, Black And Blue, Alligator, Blue Phoenix (the latter also available on Rooster Blues) and Bullseye Blues labels, and was featured on three albums by the Nighthawks.
