Love Sculpture
Having recorded as the Human Beans, Dave Edmunds (b. 15 April 1944, Cardiff, South Glamorgan, Wales; guitar) and John Williams (bass) formed Love Sculpture in 1967 with Bob Congos Jones (drums). This Cardiff-based trio enjoyed modest airplay with their debut single, River To Another Day, before a rousing interpretation of Aram Khachaturian's Sabre Dance, initially aired as a radio session by BBC disc jockey John Peel, became a surprising hit single. Its success bestowed a novelty tag on a group already hampered by a lack of musical direction and although their debut album offered worthy blues interpretations, the psychedelic tinges on a second set were somewhat anachronistic. This impasse led to a split in the original line-up and Mickey Gee (bass) and Terry Williams (drums, later of Man and Dire Straits) joined the guitarist for a final flourish. Edmunds then disbanded the group and embarked on a solo career.
