Lois Lane
b. Lois Wilkinson, 3 April 1944, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, England. As half of female singing duo the Caravelles, Lois enjoyed a major hit in 1963 with You Don't Have To Be A Baby To Cry. Their light, breathy vocal style quickly found favour, but by 1966 Lane had left the duo to pursue an alternative career. Dubbing herself Lois Lane after the SUPERMAN comic character, she recorded a handful of MOR-styled singles but became better known as a fixture of BBC Light Programme and Radio 2 sessions, singing versions of popular hits of the day when ‘needletime’ restrictions precluded the use of original records.
