Hank Levy
b. Henry J. Levy, 27 September 1927, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. After an extensive period of formal study, baritone saxophonist Levy joined Stan Kenton in 1953. By the '60s Levy was mostly writing, arranging and, in many instances, composing original material for Kenton, Don Ellis and other bands. Towards the end of the decade Levy entered musical education on a full-time basis. His work with students at Towson State University has generated considerable interest and enthusiasm, and many of his graduates found work in latter-day ‘name’ bands.
