David Liebman
b. 4 September 1946, New York City, New York, USA. After studying theory and composition with Lennie Tristiano, and saxophone and flute with Charles Lloyd, Liebman's first important job was with Elvin Jones in 1971. When he joined Miles Davis in 1974, he was simultaneously running Lookout Farm, one of many groups that have tried to fuse jazz and Indian music. Touring with Chick Corea and leading a highly successful quintet in the late '70s, Liebman was already one of the leading saxophonists playing fusion. In the '80s he co-led Quest, and is today very active in jazz education.
