Adrian Legg
b. 16 May 1948, Hackney, London, England. Although a highly respected guitarist, Legg actually played oboe as a child, both for the school orchestra and the Cheltenham Young People's Orchestra. He left home at the age of 15, and stopped playing oboe. Three or four years later he took up the guitar, joining a country band in Liverpool, and turning professional a year later. After a period of working with Irish and UK country bands, he turned solo during 1973. By 1974, Legg had won both the composition and performance categories in the folk guitar competition run by GUITARmagazine. From 1978, he stopped all performing, moving instead, in 1979, into the musical instrument industry, working in research, development and repairs. He also held instrument clinics and demonstrations. Legg resumed his playing during 1982, having produced the book, CUSTOMISING YOUR ELECTRIC GUITAR, the previous year. After recording TECHNOPICKER, for Making Waves, he left the musical instrument industry. He then followed up with FRETMELTand LOST FOR WORDS, again for Making Waves, who, unfortunately, were soon to go out of business. GUITAR FOR MORTALS, released on Relativity Records, was recorded in May 1991, in Los Angeles, and produced by Bobby Cochran. Legg also recorded a teaching video, BEYOND ACOUSTIC GUITAR, for Arlen Roth's Hot Licks series, which was released in the autumn of 1991. Legg is still involved with the industry, with the final research and development, and subsequent launch, of the Trace Elliot acoustic guitar amplifier, as well as work for Ovation guitars. In addition to this, he still holds regular teaching clinics in the USA for Kaman Corporation, Ovation's parent company. Legg regularly contributes to magazines, on matters legal and technical, and has also been doing shows and clinics for the Dean Markley String Corporation, as well as fitting in a UK tour at least once a year.
