Teddy Kotick
b. 4 June 1928, Haverill, Massachusetts, USA, d. 17 April 1986. Kotick started playing the guitar when he was six years old and only took up the double bass in high school. He moved to New York in 1948 and played with Buddy Rich, Buddy De Franco and Artie Shaw. Throughout his career Kotick played interesting lines with perfect timing, secure pitch and a full tone. In the early '50s he played with Charlie Parker and Stan Getz. Later Kotick played on Bill Evans’ debut album and then toured with the Horace Silver Quintet (1957-58). After a break in his career he settled in Massachusetts and recorded again with Allen Eager and J.R. Monterose.
