Steve Khan
b. 28 April 1947, Los Angeles, California, USA. Khan is the son of lyricist Sammy Cahn and learned to play the piano and drums as a child. He was the drummer with the surf group the Chantays (1962-63) and only turned to the guitar when he was 20. After graduating in music from UCLA in 1969, he settled in New York where he became a prolific session musician recording with artists as varied as George Benson, Hubert Laws, Maynard Ferguson, Billy Joel and Steely Dan. In 1977, he worked with Larry Coryell and Randy and Michael Brecker before touring Japan with the CBS All Stars. In 1978, he published a transcription of solos by Wes Montgomery. He has continued to develop his skills as a composer as can be seen in his tribute to pianist Thelonious Monk on EVIDENCE. In 1981, he formed Eyewitness with Manolo Badrena, Anthony Jackson and Steve Jordan.
