K. Sridhar/K. Shivakumar
K Sridhar (b. India; sarod) and K Shivakumar (b. India; violin). These two brothers (the family name is given first in India) are masters of their chosen instruments. They have each perfected Hindustani and Carnatic playing—India's two main musical traditions. Twelve generations of their family were musicians and as children the brothers studied under the renowned Indian artist, Usted Zia Mohiuddin Dagar. Throughout the '80s Sridhar toured the world and played with musicians of other styles, including jazz and flamenco. The brothers' first major performances together were at two WOMAD festivals of 1988 at Toronto, Canada and Bracknell in England. They were joined by percussionist GS Sabri (tabla) and Camilla Hale (tampura). SHRINGAR combines two half-hour ragas from each concert.
