Bobby Konders
b. c.1962. New York DJ whose mixture of dancehall reggae with house and hip hop breakbeats is widely acknowledged as a harbinger of the nascent jungle scene. Konders is a white boy from Philadelphia who ended up mixing it up for WBLS and living in the Bronx. He started DJing at the age of 15 at house parties, playing funk and reggae back to back. By 1986 he had started the Saturday Lunch Mix for WBLS. With singles like Mack Daddy he successfully combined the new rap language with dance stylings. Konders also worked on mixes for Maxi Priest, Shabba Ranks, Papa Dee and Shinehead and used dancehall vocalists like Mikey Jarrett on his own recordings. His MASSIVE SOUNDS set saw him teamed with artists like Connie Harvey, Monyaka's Raphael and soulstress Lisa Makeda.
