Terry Jacks
b. Winnipeg, Canada. Jacks was a former member of the hit group Poppy Family, and a well-known session player. While working in the studio with the Beach Boys, he attempted to persuade them to record Le Moribund, a song about a dying man by French composer Jacques Brel. When the group declined, Jacks himself recorded the English translation by Rod McKuen, retitled Seasons In The Sun. A smash hit in Canada, it subsequently reached number 1 in both the US and UK charts. Although Jacks enjoyed one further hit with a cover of Brel's If You Go Away, no other successes followed.
