Richard M. Jones
b. 13 June c.1889, Donaldsonville, Louisiana, USA, d. 8 December 1945. Although Jones had learned piano from an early age, as a teenager he played on various wind instruments in dancebands and marching bands in his home town. Later, he reverted to piano, playing solo and as a bandleader. He worked with a number of leading New Orleans musicians before moving to Chicago in 1918. He performed in several bands, but was also active in music publishing and as an executive with OKeh Records. During the '20s he recorded with his own pick-up bands and also played with many other recording artists of the day, notably Louis Armstrong. He continued playing and occasionally recording during the '30s and early '40s. His compositions include Lonesome Nobody Cares, popularized by Sophie Tucker, Riverside Blues and, best known of all, Trouble In Mind. He died in 1945.
