Allan Holdsworth
b. 6 August 1946, Leeds, UK. The professional regard for this Leeds guitarist is illustrated by the range of people with whom he has appeared, starting with Ian Carrs’ Nucleus in 1972. The end of Holdsworth's time with Nucleus coincided with a spell in Jon Hiseman's Tempest (in which he also played the violin). In its turn this overlapped with membership of Soft Machine. 1977 brought a brief period with Gong, prior to forming U.K. with Bill Bruford, John Wetton, and Eddie Jobson. When Bruford left to form his own outfit, ( Bruford), Holdsworth went with him. Typically Holdsworth soon left them, rejoining Soft Machine prior to going solo in the late '70s.
