Mark Gage
b. c.1961, USA. From Rochester, New York, Gage can genuinely point to a life-long committment to his art. ‘I've been possessed by music ever since I was a very little kid. I was collecting 45s when I was four or five years old. I had boxes for them, and I would go off to my Grandma's house and just play records the whole time I was there. So, in a sense, even at that age I was a DJ’. However, until the early '90s he subsisted entirely on wages from waiting tables. Two cult 12-inch successes, the CUSP EP and Vapourspace's Gravitational Arch Of 10, both for Plus 8, changed that. Gravitational Arch Of 10, was, infact, a misprint. The title was meant to have read Arch of Lo, but a mix up at the pressing plant ensured that it passed into techno folklore under a slightly different title. He went on to tour as Vapourspace, which is also the name of his studio, and was quickly signed up to a mult-album deal with ffrr/Internal, gaining rave reviews from a US tour with the Aphex Twin, Moby and Orbital.
