Larry Groce
b. 22 April 1948, Dallas, Texas, USA. Groce is best recalled for his 1976 novelty hit 'Junk Food Junkie'. After graduating from high school, he became a folk singer, writing and singing children's songs and recording a single, 'Winnie The Pooh For President', for Disney's Vista label. He recorded two albums for the Daybreak label in the early '70s which failed to catch on. While living in West Virginia, he wrote his paean to sugary sweets. He and his group—Berke McKelvey (bass), Loren Currence (guitar/violin) and Jimmie McKelvey (banjo/violin)—then recorded the song live at McCabe's in Santa Monica, California, and it reached US number 9. Groce continued to record both novelty records and more serious material, but was unable to follow up his one success.
