Gregson And Collister
This UK duo comprised Clive Gregson (b. 4 January 1955, Ashton-Under-Lyne, Manchester, England; guitar/keyboards/vocals), and Christine Collister (b. 28 December 1961, Douglas, Isle Of Man; guitar/percussion/vocals), and were one of the most notable duos working in folk music. Gregson was already known as the writer and prominent front man of the group Any Trouble, with whom he recorded five albums before turning solo. He released STRANGE PERSUASIONS in 1985, and then became a member of the Richard ThompsonBand. In addition, he acquired the role of producer on albums by such artists as the Oyster Band, Stephen Fearing and Keith Hancock. Another solo album was released in 1990, WELCOME TO THE WORKHOUSE, comprising material that had hitherto been unreleased. Collister had made a living singing and playing guitar in Italian bars, and as a session singer for Piccadilly Radio in Manchester. She was discovered performing in a local club by Gregson and this led to her place in the Richard Thompson Band, and subsequent position in the duo with Gregson himself. Collister has also provided backing vocals for Loudon Wainwrightand Mark Germino. Her warm sensuous vocals were instantly recognizable as the soundtrack to the BBC television series THE LIFE AND LOVES OF A SHE DEVIL. Gregson's lyrical ability and harmonies, together with Collister's unmistakable vocal style produced a number of critically acclaimed albums of note. The duo toured extensively throughout the UK, USA and Canada, and also played in Japan and Europe. In 1990 the duo completed their first tour of Australia. In March 1992 they announced the start of a farewell tour. Later that year following a farewell tour, Collister worked with Barb Jungr (of Jungr And Parker) and Heather Joyce in a part-time unit, the Jailbirds.
