David Grant
b. 8 August 1956, Kingston, Jamaica. By the time everyone realized that Linxwas not the spearhead of a new UK soul movement, singer David Grant had swapped his glasses and moustache for a sweatband and aerobics gear and went solo. Suddenly he was Britain's answer to Michael Jackson. He could dance, he was pretty and his voice was high, and Stop And Go, Watching You Watching Me, and Love Will Find A Way all made the UK Top 30 in 1983. His songwriting partnership with Derek Bramble developed resulting in the Steve Levine-produced self-titled album. More memorable however were his duets with Jaki Graham in 1985, on the Spinners Could It Be I'm Falling In Love and Todd Rundgren's Mated. Hopes And Dreams was an altogether weightier offering, with contributions from Aswadand Go West, but it just made the Top 100. Grant penned further hits for Gavin Christopher, Cheryl Lynn and Hot Chocolate. He has since maintained a loyal club following where his energetic ‘soul’ music is highly popular.
