Although they were formed in 1966 (Chicago, Illinois, USA) it was not until 1969 that Flock burst upon a most receptive market. CBS Records had successfully taken the lion's share of the progressive boom and for a short time Flock became one of their leading products. The original band comprised Jerry Goodman (violin), Fred Glickstein (guitar/vocals), Tom Webb and Rick Canoff (saxophones), Ron Karpman (drums), Jerry Smith (bass) and Frank Posa (trumpet). Their blend of jazz and rock improvisations soon exhausted audiences as the solos became longer and longer. Jerry Goodman was the outstanding musician, stunning fans with his furious and brilliant electric violin playing. Their version of the Kinks’ Tired Of Waiting For You was memorable if only for the fact that they managed to turn a three minute pop song into a magnum opus lasting, on occasions, over 10 minutes. Goodman left in 1971 to team up with John McLaughlin in the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
