Morgan Fisher
Beginning his apprenticeship with Mott The Hoople as a pianist in 1973, initially only for live appearances, Fisher went on to form the abbreviated Mottin May 1975 with Dale Griffin and Overend Watts. They were completed by new members Ray Major and Nigel Benjamin, becoming the British Lions in May 1977 with John Fidler (ex- Medicine Head) replacing Benjamin. After two albums they split in the late '70s, and Fisher produced two albums for Cherry Red as Hybrid Kids ( A COLLECTION OF CLASSIC MUTANTSand CLAWS). The first of these was supposedly filled by unknown new wave acts doing cover versions, but was actually Fisher and a few cronies. The tracks included Jah Wurzel's ( Jah Wobble meets the Wurzels) Wuthering Heights, British Standard Unit's Do Ya Think I'm Sexy, the Burton's MacArthur Park, and a new version of All The Young Dudes. Another ‘concept’ album, MINIATURES, came out on Fisher's own Pipe label, and featured various artists doing songs less than a minute long. Included among the 51 tracks are Dave Vanian ( Damned), John Otway, Andy Partridge ( XTC), Robert Wyatt, George Melly, the Residents and David Cunningham. The album was later reissued on micro-cassette, presumably suitable solely for playing on dictaphones. Fisher continued to record for Cherry Red throughout the '80s, later relocating to Japan where he changed his name to Veetdharm.
